Howard’s Summer Programs Inspire Future Health Leaders

This summer, the Howard University College of Dentistry hosted three dynamic programs aimed at expanding access to health education and inspiring the next generation of healthcare professionals: SHPEP, the S.M.I.L.E. Healthcare Pathway Program, and Young Docs of DC.
Students from across the country participated in SHPEP (Summer Health Professions Education Program), gaining hands-on experience and mentorship in dentistry, medicine, pharmacy, and nursing. A highlight of the program included a powerful personal statement written by Jordan from North Carolina, who reflected on the legacy of Dr. Charles Drew, a Howard alumnus and medical pioneer.
Together, these programs provide transformative exposure to healthcare careers and reinforce Howard’s legacy of cultivating leaders committed to service, scholarship, and social justice. We celebrate the passion and promise of every participant who joined us this summer.
