About Us
The College of Dentistry at Howard University was established in 1881. It is the fifth oldest dental school in the United States. As a teaching and patient care institution, the College has trained thousands of highly skilled dental professionals to serve their communities, particularly the under served.
Our graduates are currently serving communities in 40 states and 53 foreign countries. Our more than 100 faculty members constitute one of the best trained dental faculties in the world, thus making our institution the Capstone for transforming competent students into leaders for America and the world.
Letter from the Dean
Since 1881, Howard University College Dentistry has trained thousands of highly skilled health care professionals to become leaders and exemplars in the field of Dentistry and Dental Hygiene, with service particularly to the undeserved populations.
Howard University College of Dentistry, the 5th oldest dental school in the United States, is a teaching and patient care institution which holds proudly its mission to provide a dental education of exceptional quality to qualified individuals, with particular interest on recruiting promising, historically under represented students
The College is dedicated to maintaining a humanistic culture and learning environment for attracting, sustaining and developing a cadre of administrators, staff, students, alumni, and faculty who, through teaching, research and service, is committed to producing distinguished, compassionate, culturally sensitive, socially conscious graduates with exemplary ethical standards.
Furthermore, the College is dedicated to providing high quality patient centered, evidence-based care to our patients and improving the quality of oral health in our local, national and global communities.
Our graduates are currently practicing in communities in more than 40 states and 53 foreign countries. Our graduates also earn the respect of their colleagues, taking active leadership roles in health care and in organized dentistry on the local, national, and international levels.
The College of Dentistry is an integral unit in the Howard University Health Sciences Enterprise which consists of the Colleges of Medicine, Pharmacy, Nursing and Allied Health Sciences, the Howard University Hospital, the Faculty Practice Plan, the Student Health Center, the Louis Stokes Health Science Library and several specialty institutes and centers.
Howard University is accredited by the Middle States Association of Secondary Schools and Colleges. The College of Dentistry is an institutional member of the American Dental Education Association and is fully accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation.
I am a very proud Alumnus of both Howard University and Howard University College of Dentistry and I am extremely honored to serve as Dean of this great, historic, institution.
